| Description | Join The Politics Hour with Kojo Nnamdi for a live debate with the top Democratic candidates for D.C. mayor. Ahead of the June primary, host Kojo Nnamdi and resident analyst Tom Sherwood will speak with candidates about the pressing issues in the District, including public safety, housing, transit, and education. The confirmed candidates joining the debate are incumbent D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Councilmembers Robert White and Trayon White. Tune in live on Wednesday, May 4 from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. on WAMU 88.5 and streaming on wamu.org. Have a question for the candidates? We’ll also be taking questions during the show by email to kojo@wamu.org, on Twitter and on Facebook. Candidate Participation Criteria Participants in WAMU’s May 4 D.C. Democratic mayoral debate were determined based on two criteria: 1) Fundraising: Participating candidates must meet the threshold for public financing, which is $40,000 in contributions. If a candidate is not using public financing, the candidate must have reached that same amount of campaign contributions. WAMU is using D.C.’s Office of Campaign Finance (OCF) records to determine each candidate’s eligibility. 2) Polling: In the most recent public polls, participating candidates must have received a significant amount of public support that indicates they are competitive in the election. The most recent public credible poll was from The Washington Post in February 2022. WAMU determines a significant amount of public support to be 10% or higher. If other candidates wish to be considered for the debate, they must meet these criteria by Monday, May 2, at noon. Please note that Federal Communications Commission law provides that media outlets such as WAMU have the discretion to choose participants for debates they sponsor.
